Hopefully the equipment described in the email below will get to a family who can you it.
However, if anyone has equipment that they no longer need, and can not find a family who can use it, Wheels for the World would be glad to accept donation of the equipment. Our family volunteers with Wheels for the World, which is a ministry of the Christian disability organization, Joni and Friends. Wheels for the World collects used wheelchairs (manual only), canes (not wood), walkers and some other medical equipment. It is then refurbished in a prison program where inmates are trained to clean up and repair chairs. Then the chairs and other equipment are taken on mission trips to needy countries around the world where volunteer physical therapists and wheelchair mechanics fit and customize the chairs to each persons needs.
If you have equipment you would like to donate, you can call me at (505) 823-9602 or email me at stewardfamily@comcast.net.
We definitely can accept manual wheelchairs and metal canes and walkers in ANY condition and can also accept extra parts. If you have other types of equipment, let me know what it is and I can find out if it can be used.
Our older son was able to experience first-hand the joy this equipment brings to those in need by participating in a mission trip to Guatemala to distribute chairs. If you would like to know more about this wonderful organization, go to joniandfriends.org (you can find Wheels for the World under the Programs tab.)
May you all have a wonderful holiday season!
